A Jonah Day

It's well past midnight. My two year old has a cold, which means the past few nights have been rough, and tonight looks like more of the same. And last night's lack of sleep made her an absolute maniac today. I've been working on the same reading since this morning. Start. Get into a flow. Stop. Come back. Figure out where I left off. Jump back in. Get the flow going again. Andddd, somebody needs something again. NOW.

Here's the thing about channeling. It's impossible to "phone it in" and even if I could, I wouldn't want to. (Ethics and values, and stuff, right?) But interruptedchanneling, in between sniffles and negotiating diaper changes and making dinner and managing multiple wake-ups in a couple of hours is enough to drive the most zen person off a cliff.

So that's where I am right now. I've jumped off the proverbial cliff. And I know you guys would understand if I didn't send out an email this week. But the way Spirit works, I know there's something I'm supposed to learn from this one, and I have a feeling more than a few will benefit from it, too. So here I am. (As you can see, I never know what they're going to have me write about every week.)

This week's question:

Q. What do you do when nothing is going your way? When everything is taking super human effort? What does it mean?

A. The first thing to do is the Stop, Drop, and Roll that I mentioned a few weeks ago

The bottom line is that energy isn't lining up, and if you're feeling like me right now, you're NOT FEELING GREAT. When you're doing what you're meant to be doing, it feels like you're in the flow. Time stands still and speeds up at the same time, and it might often feel like you don't need to even thinkabout what you're doing. The task almost completes itself. Like magic.

When you're not "in Flow", it feels like everything is going wrong. You've spilled coffee on your white shirt. You've gotten toilet paper stuck on your shoe and you didn't notice until after your job interview. You've hit every single red light, and then when you finally arrive, you realize you left the one thing you needed on the kitchen counter, next to the note saying "Don't Forget!". We've all had these days, when we just get tripped up by life. One hiccup is fine. We bounce back, no problem. But two gets harder. Then 5, or 8, or 11... Things have gotten ridiculous, and something's up.

Well you're right. Something is up. You don't need to know specifics because it's often a combination. Your energy, somebody else's energy, the day in general... Things are off. And you're feeling it all.

The first thing to do is to hit the RESET button. If you're lucky, you get to take a nap. If you're me, you get to take 20 seconds (or 5 minutes) to close your eyes and breathe. In through your nose, out through your mouth. Sleep is a magical cure. If you can't sleep, here's where EFT or affirmations or acupressure or any healing modality can help too. (Questions?)

The goal is to get you feeling better, right now. It's the #1 priority. When you're feeling better, everything is better. Duh.

From there, the thing coming in is the image of adjusting a dial. This is my symbol for adjusting your expectations and broadening your scope.

Being so focused on making one specific task work can take you out of awareness. It could be that you're being pushed (by your Team or the Universe) to a different task. It could be that there's a potential for an important interaction with a person that your tunnel vision would make you miss. Being met with so much resistance is always a sign that your simply being redirected. It can either be easy (go with it) or it can be hard (fight it). The choice is yours.

Why is this happening? The truth is, you might never know. That's a blow to the ego, which likes to be in control and looking smart! But if your trust is in the Flow of your life, and you're truly on board with the idea that your life is happening for you and not to you, then suddenly it's perfectly ok to not have all the answers.

I'm seeing the Trust game that people play on company retreats, where 1 person falls backward, trusting that their partner will catch them. That's basically what this is. It's the Universe playing a Trust game.

How long will it take to get our attention? How long will we fight it and try to push our way to the thing we want, on the timeline we want? What fears must we put aside in order to let go and fall backward? What will it take to truly understand that both Flow and Resistance are in direct service to getting us to where we are meant to be? If we're in resistance, it just means we still have room to grow, and more to learn.

So, I guess it sounds like it's time to let go. Fall back. Let the Universe catch you.

Or not!

Who am I to pretend I know better than the Universe? I don't know about you, but I'm going straight to BED. I'm DONE with today, and I'm 100% ok with it. I'm choosing to turn that dial. All the way down to zzzzz.
